An organized group of criminals were caught in action on surveillance camera in Oxnard at 5:13AM, early Thursday morning. The crew of 3 pulled up in a light colored 4 door sedan with low profile rims. They brazenly spent the next 25 minutes in a well let parking lot visible from the 101 freeway removing the catalytic converters from 4 vehicles for handicap seniors. Not only does the dollar value of this crime make it a felony, but it is also against federal law for anyone to remove such devices.
These mandated smog control devices are being stolen from vehicles throughout Ventura County. While thieves sell these to unscrupulous metal recyclers for scrap value, vehicle owners find themselves shelling out hundreds, if not thousand of dollars for new replacements. Local residents and businesses find themselves hit hard by these attacks in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.Â
Anyone with information is urged to call the Oxnard PD.
ON the lookout while other crew member finishes dirty work.
Thief pops the trunk of the get-a-way car while second member of crew stands by van.
Starts to go under vehicle to skillfully and quickly remove catalytic converter
