Oxnard Police Department – Incident Press Release
On May 26, 2020, at around 11:52 PM, officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Indigo Place. The vehicle was described as a dark colored four door sedan and was last seen going southbound on Ironbark Place. Responding officers stopped a vehicle matching the description in the 900 block of Azalea Street. The occupants included the driver, Monessa Gutierrez (age 23), along with passengers Fernando Porras (age 24), and Randy Simmons (age 32). During a search of the interior of the vehicle, officers located an unloaded handgun and empty shell casings. Officers canvassed the area of the original call for service and located additional shell casings in the 900 block of Indigo Place.
All three suspects were arrested for multiple felony firearm related charges including possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a unregistered firearm, possession of a firearm within 1000 feet of a school, and possession of a firearm with a high capacity magazine. Additionally, suspect Porras, who is on parole, was also arrested for a being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.
