Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training
(Class 19-2)
April 11 – May 18, 2019
The Oxnard Fire Department is excited to offer the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training series beginning April 11th, 2019. The training is focused on how to be self-sufficient during a disaster. At the completion of the 6 classes participants will have the opportunity to use their skills and training and participate in a full scale disaster exercise. No special skills or training are needed. Oxnard CERT training is provided free of charge but participants must be able to attend all six classes and the disaster exercise to receive credit and a CERT Certificate. Classes 1 through 6 will be held on Thursdays from 6 – 9 p.m., the final disaster exercise will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Class size is limited and offered on a first come first served basis. Dates and locations as follows:
Class 1 – Thursday, April 11 – Session #1: Disaster Preparedness
Learn about disasters and their impact on the community; personal preparedness; emergency kits.

Class 2 – Thursday, April 18 – Session #3: Disaster Medical Operations Part 1
Triage, head to toe assessments, establishing a treatment site and simple first aid procedures.

Class 3 – Thursday, April 25 – Session #2: Disaster Fire Suppression
Fire chemistry, hazards, and hands-on training in fire extinguisher use.

Class 4 – Thursday, May 2 – Session # 4: Disaster Medical Operations Part 2
First aid treatment strategies, establishing a treatment site and continuation of Session #3 topics

Class 5 – Thursday, May 9 – Session #5: Light Search and Rescue
Rescuer safety, search patterns, lifting and cribbing techniques.

Class 6 – Thursday, May 16 – Session #6: Disaster Psychology /Terrorism
Terrorism awareness and disaster psychology for the rescuer.

FINAL EXERCISE – Saturday, May 18 (8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
Disaster simulation with YOU as the rescuer!
(Wear comfortable clothes and closed toed sturdy shoes – bring jacket, water and snacks)
