Oxnard Bookkeeper Arrested for Embezzlement – Bail Set at $1.5 Million

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced today the filing of charges against Inez Marie Byars (DOB 5/15/1975), of Oxnard, on nine felony fraud counts. A complaint was filed on April 12, 2019, charging Byars with grand theft, forgery, elder/dependent fraud, identity theft and the aggravated white-collar crime enhancement of taking more than $500,000. The charges against Byars are the result of an investigation conducted by the Oxnard Police Department.

Byars was the longtime bookkeeper for an elderly and disabled Oxnard resident who owns a real estate company called Discountland, Inc. The law enforcement investigation in this case revealed that, over many years, Byars secretly embezzled the victim’s money by misappropriating corporate and personal funds for her own benefit. She accomplished her thefts by routinely forging checks and by misusing a company ATM/debit card. Byars also used the victim’s identity to open and use credit accounts for her personal benefit without authorization. Byars was able to conceal her theft for years by failing to make property tax payments on numerous parcels the victim’s company managed.

Byars was arrested on April 10, 2019. She remains in custody in the Ventura County jail with bail set at $1.5 million. She appeared in court on April 12, 2019, and pled not guilty to all charges.  An early disposition conference is scheduled for April 19, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura Superior Court, County of Ventura. If convicted on all charges, Byars faces up to 14 years in prison.

Cher Reverses Course On Mass Immigration — ‘If My State Can’t Take Care Of Its Own, How Can It Take Care Of More?’ |

    0

    Scott Morefield | Reporter

Pop singer Cher seemed to do an about-face on the immigration issue, questioning why a city and state that “isn’t taking care of its own” should bring in and “take care of more.”

“I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants, but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN,” Cher said in a Sunday tweet. “WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+????????Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS. PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE,& HUNGRY? If My State Can’t Take Care of Its Own(Many Are VETS) How Can it Take Care Of More?”

Cher’s position is a 180 degree reversal from a September 2017 tweet, when she offered to “take a dreamer” into her home and business.

“Those Who Can Must Take a DREAMER In2 Their Home & Protect Them,” she wrote. “I’m Ready 2 Do This & Others in MY BUSINESS WILL DO THE SAME. SANCTUARY.”

Border Patrol Union President Says It’s ‘Absolutely Legal’ To Drop Illegals In Sanctuary Cities

    0

    Virginia Kruta, Associated Editor

National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd claimed Sunday that it is “absolutely legal” for the federal government to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities.

Judd argued during a “Fox & Friends” segment that President Donald Trump’s proposed planto do just that was “brilliant” and should have been cheered by people on both sides.

    WATCH:

“It’s absolutely legal,” Judd explained. “But I’m going to get beaten up by the hard left for this comment. But this is actually a brilliant move on the president’s part.” (RELATED: ‘CHANGE THE LAWS NOW!’: Trump Takes Aim At Sanctuary Cities, Democrats)

Judd went on to detail the “two layers” he saw at work in the proposed plan.

“If he’s doing it for humanitarian purposes, he should be praised,” Judd began. “These are cities that the city councils have consciously made a decision they’re going to accept the illegal aliens into their cities to protect them.”

But then Judd addressed the flip side, saying, “If he’s doing it for political reasons, this is brilliant. These people have to be released for one reason or another. And if we’re going to have to release them, why not show the sanctuary cities the same pressure that other cities are feeling.”

“From those two layers, this is a brilliant move,” Judd concluded.

Reports surfaced last week that the White House had proposed transporting detained illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities once the legal 20-day detention period had lapsed, but that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had rejected the plan over public relations concerns.

Following the public reaction to those reports — particularly the response from Democrats who suddenly appeared to oppose an influx of illegal immigrants into the cities they touted as welcoming to all — Trump has doubled down on the idea, saying that his administration is now seriously considering the option.

Gary Sinise Plays Cal Lutheran to honor Ventura County’s Defenders and its First Responders | #VenturaStrong

    0

The gates opened at 4pm on Saturday, April 13th at California Lutheran’s William Rolland Stadium.  The concert was free of charge and there was a strong presence of law enforcement in attendance.  Citizens Journal’s founder attended the event. The Lt. Dan Band came out and played at 6:15pm that evening entertaining the crowd with tunes from the 70’s and 80’s.

    From KCAL:

“Sinise and [John] Ondrasik were only too happy to be able to shed a light on the first responders who helped Thousand Oaks cope with the Borderline murders and the deadly Woolsey Fire days later.

“’I live in Ventura County. I was here when this terrible thing happened last November. A 1-2 punch in the face,’ Sinise said.

“He hosted what he called “A Night of Enjoyment” — free of charge.

“It wasn’t a fundraiser, it was just about putting smiles on peoples’ faces.”

    Thank you, Mr. Sinise!
