9th Circuit Deals Trump An Immigration Win. Yes, You Read That Right

    3

    .
    .

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily lifted an order suspending the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), a Trump administration policy that requires Central American asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico before their appearance in immigration court.

Though the Friday evening stay is not indicative of the government’s future prospects in this case, it was a rare victory for an administration that has often struggled before the left-leaning court.

“Finally, great news at the border!” President Donald Trump tweeted Friday night.

Former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen began implementing the MPP in December 2018 following negotiations with the Mexican government. The government claimed the program was authorized by a provision of federal law allowing the attorney general to return aliens arriving from neighboring countries.

The provision provides: “In the case of an alien…who is arriving on land from a foreign territory contiguous to the United States, the attorney general may return the alien to that territory,” pending further proceedings before an immigration judge.

A coalition of immigrant advocacy groups sued, arguing the MPP deprives migrants of “a meaningful opportunity to seek asylum” since they are returned to violent areas without resources to fully prepare their case. (RELATED: Federal Judge Compares Trump To George Wallace, KKK In Stunning Speech)

U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg agreed, and issued a preliminary injunction against the government on Monday. He also found the government may have violated the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) which sets standards for the issuance of new government rules. The injunction, which applied across the entire nation, was set to take effect Friday night.

In its emergency motion for a stay of Seeborg’s order, the government emphasized that the MPP is a lawful component of a new security and foreign policy strategy assembled in view of the escalating crisis on the southern border.

The 9th Circuit’s temporary stay will remain in effect for a matter of days, pending full resolution of the government’s motion.

The administration hopes the Migrant Protection Protocols will deter meritless asylum-seekers while clearing a backlog of asylum applications that is approaching one million.

What’s the Difference Between Democrats and Communists?

What’s the Difference Between Democrats and Communists?

I’m starting to think Joe McCarthy wasn’t wrong, just early.

I wasn’t even born when McCarthy was going after communists in our government and political class. I wasn’t there, so I have no idea what really happened. But history says he was wrong. Okay, let’s go by that assessment.

That was then. This is now. Today’s Democrat Party is no longer hiding its infatuation with socialist, Marxist and even communist philosophy. And that my friends is un-American. Because to embrace the radical views of today’s Democrat Party is to embrace the end of America and everything our Founding Fathers believed in.

First, it’s important to examine the economic news out this week. On Thursday, we found out US jobless claims fell to 49 year lows, below all forecasts. The last time this few Americans were out of work was 1969- the year man first landed on the moon.

    National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is April 14 – 20, 2019. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is honoring the public safety dispatchers who serve as the lifeline between people in need and vital law enforcement services. These public safety dispatchers have dedicated their careers to providing superior service to the residents of Ventura County. In many cases, the dispatcher can make the difference between life and death.

    Typical Dispatch Center

In 2018, the public safety dispatchers and supervisors at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office answered more than 355,000 telephone calls, including 106,000 9-1-1 calls. Historically, those numbers grow each year.

Day in, and day out, hundreds of people depend on the skill, expertise and commitment of the dispatchers who work in public safety communications. These team members help save countless lives by handling emergency telephone calls, dispatching law enforcement resources, and providing moral support to people in distress. Their normal workday is nothing but abnormal in so many ways.

Public safety dispatchers must undergo a rigorous testing and background process before being hired. After they have been hired, new dispatchers must attend a three-week Basic Dispatcher Course that is certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Typically, their training also includes 2 additional weeks of classroom training and between 6 – 12 months of on-the-job training before the new dispatcher is allowed to work independently. Even then, approximately 50% of the dispatchers hired are not able to successfully complete the training program due to the unique demands and stress of the job.

Within the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, we are celebrating the valuable contributions that our public safety dispatchers make on a daily basis. We are incredibly fortunate to have such talented and dedicated professionals who work so hard to serve the public and our deputies. Please join us in thanking them for doing such an excellent job at fulfilling a critical role in public safety.

Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula – Landmark String Quartet in Concert

Concert Series presents the Landmark String Quartet

The Santa Paula Concert Series presents a classical concert by the Landmark String Quartet on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the historic Universalist Unitarian Church, a Ventura Historical County landmark, located at 740 East Main Street, Santa Paula. They will be playing String Quartet No.2 by Alexander Borodin and String Quartet No. 6 in F minor by Felix Mendelssohn.

The Landmark String Quartet changed their name in 2018 from the Sincopa String Quartet, drawing inspiration from their supporters’ suggestions and comments. Their goal is to rejuvenate so-called classical music for newer generations. They want to bring the live music into every corner in the world. Does classical music only belong in a serious concert hall? Is classical music boring? How can we help this generation under the influence of Instant Culture enjoy live music? This is why they renamed themselves the Landmark String Quartet. Landmarks can be new and innovative, but it also can be old and historical. With either new or old landmarks, there’s always a story to tell.

Landmark String Quartet, as the former Sincopa String Quartet, played the Santa Paula Concert Series in 2016. They have also played at many other venues including the Ojai Art Center Concert Series and Desert Hot Spring Concert Series.  The members of Landmark String Quartet are from very different countries and cultures, yet they met in Los Angeles with the same dream. Each one of us has his or her own accomplishments in music performance. We are mixed with Brazilian, Czech, Korean and Taiwanese cultures! This factor makes us together as one!

The Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula has been home to a number of musical events throughout its 129 year history. Admission is $20 donation at the door, from the church office during office hours, or by Paypal on the church’s website: www.uucsp.org. Credit cards, checks and cash are accepted at the door. Children 12 and under are $10; children 5 and under are free. Proceeds benefit the Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula Building and Historical Fund. For more information, call 805-525-4647 or email [email protected]. Parking is on the street or behind the church.

Lecture and Book Signing With Senator Tom Cotton at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute

Event - Lecture and Book Signing with Senator Tom Cotton

    MAY 28, 2019

    SCHEDULE

    6:00 p.m. – Program
    7:00 p.m. – Book Signing

Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute

    40 Presidential Drive

    Simi Valley, CA 93065

Please join us for a lecture and book signing with United States Senator Tom Cotton on his brand-new book, Sacred Duty: A Soldier’s Tour at Arlington National Cemetery (Publish Date: May 14, 2019). This event is free to attend; however, books must be purchased in the Reagan Library Museum Store to receive signature. Books may be pre-purchased during the reservation process.

Arlington National Cemetery is the most sacred shrine in America. Its hallowed grounds contain presidents, privates, and some of the most famous names in military and political history—Supreme Court justices, five-star generals, and Medal of Honor recipients—as well as liberated slaves, and, at the fabled Tomb of the Unknown, the bodies of soldiers known only to God.

Sacred Duty, is not only an intimate and inspiring portrait of Arlington National Cemetery’s Old Guard (the official ceremonial unit of the U.S. Army and America’s oldest infantry unit, dating to 1784), but also a personal chronicle of Senator Cotton’s time as a platoon leader in the unit.   In writing and researching the book, Senator Cotton has spent the past year closely shadowing the unit’s soldiers, original reporting that forms the spine of the book.

Tom Cotton is a United States  Senator  from  Arkansas. He served in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division and   in Afghanistan with a Provincial Reconstruction Team. Between combat tours, he served with the United States

Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment (“The Old Guard”) at Arlington National Cemetery. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He served one term in the House of Representatives before election to the Senate.

The California 2020 Race is On!

    .

By Stephen Frank,  California Political News and Views

The money race for the 2020 race has begun.  Important to notice the race against GOP Congressman Doug LaMalfa.  The $250,000 raised at this early date shows it will be a barn burner of a race..  My bet is that he and Cong. Paul Cook are the top targets of the Democrats.

In CA-10, Rep. Josh Harder (D) brought in more than $800,000. And his opponent, 2018 candidate Ted Howze (R), had $321,000 in cash on hand by the end of March. (releases) In CA-01, 2018 nominee Audrey Denney (D) raised more than $250,000 for another run against Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R). (release) (from Hotline)

Last month the former GOP Assemblywoman Catherine Baker was on Twitter, extolling the virtues of Democrat State Senator Steve Glazer.  Now she is making calls in the Bay Area, asking people to become part of the California Republican Party Platform Committee, to “change the State Platform”.  She is a leader of the “New Way” which opposes President Trump, supports higher taxes and bigger government—in hopes Democrats and Decline to State will become Republican.  Glad to see she is still a Republican.

The Santa Barbara Congressional seat of Democrat Salud Carbajal now has at least two people seriously looking at running for the seat.  One, is former FRESNO city councilman Michael Woody—who after he lost to Alan Autry for Mayor, moved back to the Central Coast.  He has been asking for an endorsement from the SB Republican party.  The other candidate is a familiar name, Chris Mitchum.  He lost in 2012 by a small amount when he was not fully funded by the Washington folks.  That was a race that could have been won by Mitchum.  Both claim to be conservative.

In my home District, once represented by Steve Knight, the incumbent Katie Hill has raised $560,000 in the first quarter.  We now have three candidates for that office.  Lancaster City Councilwoman Underwood, Mike Garcia a former fighter pilot and police officer—backed by former district Congressman Buck McKeon and Suzette Martinez Valladares—who once worked for McKeon—her campaign is being run out of Virginia by a former NRCC operative named Keady.   This race is important because Sen. Scott Wilk, in a tough re-elect covers most of the District and Assemblyman Tom Lackey in the Antelope Valley also covers a part of the District—and is in a VERY tough re-elect.  In the last election the GOP lost a historically long time Assembly and congressional seat.

Down in the old Mimi Walters seat we have a council member running for the seat in 2020.  Peggy Huang, a Yorba Linda city councilwoman..  Huang has hired a local political consultant instead of a Sacramento GOP consultant.  Note that both  alladares and Huang are staying away from Sacramento consultants.  A few other candidates are doing the same.

Next week I will have a HEARD IT ON THE TOM TOM”S note about GOP’ers turning NPP (Decline to State) to run for legislative office.

Former Massachusetts GOP Governor, and 2016 Libertarian Party VP nominee, Bill Weld is putting together a campaign team.  His chief consultant is Stuart Stevens, who has done several races in California.  That might explain why a leading California Never Trumper, close to California GOP leadership is angling for the job of Western Region Director for the Weld for President campaign.

From California Politico:  “— TEAM KASICH: Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Republican Assemblyman Chad Mayes were named to positions on former Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s group seeking an alternate path for the GOP, per Axios. Like Kasich, both Mayes and Schwarzenegger have been vocal Trump critics.”

Politico also shows a donation from the California Chamber of Commerce (4/4/19), “A good reminder that the Chamber can be more pragmatic than partisan, as a $30,000 donation to the California Democratic Party yesterday underscores.”

Stephen Frank: Is the the publisher and editor of the California Political News and Views.  Mr. Frank speaks all over California and appears as a guest on several radio shows each week. He has also served as a guest host on radio talk shows and is a full time political consultant. http://capoliticalnews.com/

San Jose Mayor Says Trump Can Send Illegal Immigrants To His City Any Time

    0

    Mary Margaret Olohan | Reporter

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said he would welcome any illegal immigrants President Donald Trump would transfer to his city.

“@realdonaldtrump⁩ plans to release detained immigrants to @cityofsanjose⁩? We welcome any families willing to endure such extraordinary hardships and to take such tremendous risks to be a part of our great country,” said Licarrdo in a tweet Friday. (RELATED:  ICE Nabs 280 Suspected Illegals — Largest Workplace Raid Of Trump Administration)

Liccardo’s comment came in response to Trump’s tweets.

“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only … The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy — so this should make them very happy!”
