    Godspeak Calvary Chapel Upcoming Events

    UPCOMING

    Mommy & Me & Jesus Makes 3
This special event is to celebrate Easter with Moms/Grandparent and children ages 0-4 yrs. Fellowship with other Moms while children engage in age appropriate activities: story, music, crafts, science, activities and an egg hunt. Register in the Foyer and join us Thursday April 11th at 9:30am in the Children’s Ministry Wing!

    Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is when we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus. Although this was a joyous occasion, Jesus knew that His people would ultimately turn against Him. The people expected a King that would solve all of their earthly problems, but God is interested in greater things. “This is Love” is what our theme is for Holy Week, and we are excited to take a look at all of the ways Jesus Loves us. Sunday 4/14/19

The Cross of Christ – Godspeak Kids
This year our Godspeak Kids are putting on an amazing easter performance. On Palm Sunday, April 14th, at 6:00pm, or Kids will be on stage in the sanctuary leading the congregation in a beautiful time of worship as we reflect on all that Jesus has done for us. If you would like your child to be involved, and they are not already, please contact our children’s ministry team. Sunday April 14th at 6pm in the Sanctuary!

    Good Friday
As we carry on the theme, “This is Love,” we see it displayed perfectly by Jesus on the cross as it is describer in John 15:13. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Jesus died the death that we should have died, and on Good Friday, we recognize that, but we also look ahead, know that he did not simply die, but rose again. Death could not hold Him. Join us Friday April 19th 12pm-1pm

    Seder Dinner
Join us for a Messianic Passover and Seder Dinner led by Jerry Gross. Passover is the annual commemoration of the Jewish people remembering God’s redemption from Egypt, found in the book of Exodus. Celebrate with us as we see Passover’s culmination and fulfillment depicted in the Passover Lamb, Jesus the Messiah. Celebrate “His” Story the way the early believers did. A delicious catered dinner will be served. This year’s seder will take place in the sanctuary at Godspeak. The cost is $45 for adults and $30 for children ages 4-12. Families are welcome but childcare will Not be provided. Click here to register!

    Preaster
We have an exciting new event that we are launching the Saturday before Easter Sunday, called Preaster. As we know, we worship a risen King that defeated death, and that is worth celebrating! On Saturday April 20th from 11am – 2pm we will be gathering at the church as a family to enjoy great food, fellowship, and have fun. This is an all church family event that will include an easter egg hunt for the little ones, bounce houses,  and there have been rumors that we’ll have a chance to “Dunk the Mayor” in a dunk tank. The vision of this event is simple, enjoy our family and celebrate our risen Savior.

    Easter Sunday
Holy Week culminates on Easter Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of our King. After our normal Easter Sunday service times, we will be holding our first baptism service in our new baptismal. What better time to identify with the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ than on Easter Sunday. You can sign up to be Baptized by clicking here. Don’t forget to invite friends and family! Sunday 4/21/19

Graduating students of the Resident Leadership Academy celebrate spirit of community through local change

(Ventura County, CA) –Ventura County’s Resident Leadership Academy (RLA), a program that empowers residents to make positive changes, will honor 16 graduating students this Thursday, April 4, during a commencement ceremony at 978 E Main St, in Santa Paula.

Sponsored by Ventura County Public Health (VCPH), the Ventura County RLA is a 10-session comprehensive curriculum that encourages community residents to reduce health disparities and inequities by encouraging healthy eating, physical activity and public safety through policy and environmental change. It provides tools and strategies to create healthier neighborhood environments and connect to local grassroots networks where residents can take ownership and leadership of community improvements and projects.

“At the end of the 10-sessions, RLA graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to make sustainable community changes,” explained Claudia Castañeda, Community Services Coordinator of VCPH. “This current RLA group from Santa Paula has shown such commitment and dedication and I could not be more proud of them as they graduate from the program and begin their own Community Impact Project to help reduce smoking and environmental impacts of secondhand smoke in their Santa Paula Community.”

Resident Leadership Academy Graduate, Gutierrez, Alisson helped to clean up 1000’s of cigarette butts at local Santa Paula Park on Jan 27th 2019 during a community cigarette butt audit.

Upon graduation from the RLA program, the participants will work with local community partners to assess their neighborhoods, determine and prioritize needs, and implement a Community Improvement plan (CIP). RLA graduates are empowered to make healthy behavior changes, enhance their neighborhood environments, and create vibrant neighborhoods through policy, systems, and environmental changes that will help them reach their goals.

“As a group, we were already working in our community to collect and dispose of thousands of cigarette butts in our local parks,” said Maria Jimenez, current RLA graduate and Director of Poder Popular in Santa Paula.  “The RLA provided us a pathway to make our efforts to promote a smoke free outdoor ordinance even more impactful. We are looking forward to taking this commitment towards reducing secondhand smoke in our community to the next level with our official RLA Community Impact Project.”

RLA training is available to any and all residents who are interested in learning how to work together to improve the health of their community.

“The RLA is a true investment in our community’s social capital, providing residents with the opportunity to build leadership capacity and create positive changes in their neighborhoods that influence health,” continued Castañeda. “The long-term plan involves empowerment of community members giving them the skills and tools to help in advocacy and policy development to create sustainable public health programs where they live.”

Ventura | Combative Suspect Shot by Officer

Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release

The man who attacked a Ventura Police Officer and was subsequently shot on Monday morning has been identified as Christopher Hays, 37, of Ventura.

Beginning at about 8:30 AM on 04/01/19, Christopher Hays made several telephone calls to the Ventura Police Department Dispatch Center. During these calls, Hays threatened to kill members of the police department, as well as bomb the police station and local schools.

Officers responded to Hays’ residence and learned he was not there. As the investigation continued, officers obtained information that Hays may be on his way to the Ventura County Government Center. This information, along with a description of Hays and his vehicle, was broadcast to the police officers working patrol.

At about 10:30 AM, a Ventura Police officer observed Hays’ vehicle driving into the parking lot of the Ventura County Government Center. The officer made contact with Hays and gave verbal directives, but Hays was non-compliant. Instead, Hays verbally threatened the officer and then physically assaulted him. Hays was able to gain control of the officer’s baton and used it to strike the officer’s arm and head. The officer attempted to use a taser to safely end the confrontation, but it was unsuccessful and Hays continued his assault.

The officer then fired two shots that struck Hays in the abdomen which ended the attack.

Hays was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. The officer was also treated at a local hospital and released the same day.

The officer involved in this incident has been identified as Sergeant Sam Harbert, a 28 year law enforcement veteran.

Kristin Decas Named as a Women of the Year Award Recipient for Senate District 19

    0
In celebration of Women’s History Month, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblymember Monique Limón honored Port of Hueneme CEO & Port Director Kristin Decas, along with 4 other women from Senate District 19, for their commitment to improving the lives of those in the community.
Assemblymember Monique Limón, Port of Hueneme CEO & Port Director Kristin Decas, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson
“Representing a wide diversity of backgrounds and contributions, these Women of the Year all share a commitment to their communities and a passion for improving the lives of others,” Jackson said. “It is an honor to recognize the tremendous achievements of these remarkable leaders.”

Since Decas took the helm at the Port of Hueneme in 2012, the Port’s revenues have climbed 23.5%. Decas was the first woman to serve as Port Director for both the Port of New Bedford, Massachusetts in its 50 year history and the Port of Hueneme in its 82 year history. She was the 4th woman to chair the Association of American Port Authorities in its 103 years. With her background in environmental science and law, Decas has led the Port of Hueneme to be voted the Greenest U.S. Port by the Green Shipping Summit and the first Port in California to earn a Green Marine Certification. The Port has earned a reputation in the maritime industry as a leader in sustainable port management and community engagement.

For more information on the Port’s Green Initiatives, click here.

“As Vice Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, I know the important role strong women leaders play in the community and what their achievements mean for the empowerment of women statewide. It is my pleasure to award these women for their outstanding achievements, not only in the 37th district but for women in all sectors throughout the state,” said Limón.

“It is an honor to receive this accolade from amazing female leaders constantly trailblazing on behalf of women and working tirelessly to represent us all in Sacramento,” said Decas. “Our team from the Board to staff to community and industry partners aspire to make a difference and invest in our community. We all share this award.”

Under Decas’ leadership, the Port handled 1.6 million tons of cargo, breaking previous cargo records for the Port. When Ms. Decas is not managing the commercial seaport, she supports her local community by serving on the Dignity Health Ventura County Community Board and the Habit for Humanity Ventura County Advisory Board.

“As a Woman of the Year, Kristin Decas is rightly being recognized as one of the most accomplished women in our community,” said Oxnard Harbor District President Jess Herrera. “Her achievements, dedication and tireless energy are an inspiration to all who come in contact with her.”

The Port of Hueneme is one of the most productive and efficient commercial trade gateways for niche cargo on the West Coast. The Port is governed by five locally elected Port Commissioners. The Port moves $9 billion in goods each year and consistently ranks among the top ten U.S. ports for automobiles and fresh produce. Port operations support the community by bringing $1.5 billion in economic activity and creating 13,633 trade-related jobs. Trade through the Port of Hueneme generates more than $93 million in direct and related state and local taxes, which fund vital community services. In 2017, the Port of Hueneme became the first port in California to become Green Marine certified. www.portofh.org.
