Pair arrested for Liquor Store Robbery in El Rio

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On January 11, 2021, at approximately 9:44 PM, a robbery occurred at El Rio Liquor located at 2910 E. Vineyard Avenue in El Rio. A Hispanic male suspect brandished a knife, threatened the clerk, and demanded cash. The suspect took cash from the register and liquor bottles before fleeing to a waiting vehicle. Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Station Patrol Deputies took the initial report.

Headquarters Investigations Unit and Sheriff’s Gang Unit Detectives conducted the follow-up investigation with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Crime Analysis Unit. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office generated a press release with photos of the robbery suspect requesting the public’s assistance. Detectives developed leads about the suspects and received tips from the public about the robbery.

On February 4, 2021, detectives from multiple Sheriff’s Office investigative units served a search warrant and arrested the suspects in Oxnard. During the warrant service and subsequent investigation, detectives located evidence, which linked (S) Angel Garcia Ceballos and (S) Oscar Daniel Cruz Perez to the El Rio Liquor store robbery.

Additionally, detectives confiscated a semi-automatic handgun at one of the robbery suspect’s residences, which was not registered to any of the residents at the location. The investigation of the handgun is on-going.

Ceballos and Perez were arrested for violations of PC 211 – Robbery and PC 182 – Conspiracy. Both subjects were booked into the Ventura County Jail. Ceballos’ bail was set at $250,000 and a no-bail violation of probation hold was placed on him for a previous robbery case. Perez’s bail was set at $205,000. Both subjects are scheduled to appear in Court on February 8, 2021 at 1:30 PM.

Detectives believe Ceballos and Perez likely committed other robberies in Ventura County. If you have any information, please contact Detective Janca at 805-654-2360.
