Congratulations, you did it. The Senate Committee meeting was a success.
Did we move the needle? No. Did we change a single vote? No. Did AB 860 pass out of committee? Yes. Will it probably become law? Yes. So in what way were we a success?
We showed up. We made our voices heard. An astonishing number of you found your way through the technological maze and difficulties and hung in there to express your opinion. And, whether “they” acknowledged it or not, we overwhelmed “them”.
And you were there to hear with your own ears the disdain with which “they” view you and your sincerely held point of view. You experienced the juggernaut of the state governmental process, and how it leaves all reason in the dust.
The most telling moment was when “they” had a chance to make a concession to so many people’s concern regarding inactive voters potentially receiving a ballot. For all that they so condescendingly argued, the danger is there. It happened in Clark County, Nevada, and it can happen here. So Senator Nielsen proposed the amendment we recommended to insert the word “active” before registered voters. They couldn’t even see their way clear to do that.
We the People have no voice in Sacramento. But you started a new wave today by showing up in such large numbers. There were hundreds of attendees, and judging by those who spoke up, 70-80% joined us in being opposed to the bill. “They” know we are here, and that we are paying attention. “They” know that we are no longer asleep, and that we will hold “them” accountable. And I believe we have them rattled.
So yes, today can be seen as a success. Do not let down. Stay engaged, watch for further alerts, keep attending the telephonic committee meetings. Turn today’s wave into a tsunami. We will accelerate the erosion of “their” control.
We will restore election integrity to the people of CA if we stay the course. Thanks for showing up.
