Last night, the Ventura County Republican Party voted, by an over two-thirds majority, to endorse former Navy Fighter Pilot Mike Garcia for the 25th Congressional district regular and special elections. Just less than two weeks ago the Los Angeles County Republican Party also selected Mike Garcia as the top Republican to run in the Congressional seat. Both GOP organizations and their members chose to endorse Garcia over former Congressman and longtime local politician Steve Knight.
Since entering the race last April, Mike Garcia has been coalescing Republican and local support around his candidacy. In addition to both county Republican organizations in the district, former Governor and U.S. Senator Pete Wilson endorsed Mike Garcia early on joining Steve Knight’s predecessors former Congressmen Elton Gallegly and Buck McKeon who were with Garcia at the outset of his campaign.
Already the leading Republican fundraiser in the district, Mike Garcia has built a strong grassroots organization helping to cement him as the top GOP candidate in the district. The continually increasing local support includes over 30 current and former elected officials, over 200 veterans and 200 volunteers, as well as conservative talk radio personality, Larry Elder. Garcia has also been endorsed by prominent national veteran organizations such as War Veterans Fund PAC, Combat Veterans for Congress PAC, and SEAL PAC.
“As we get closer to both March elections, more and more Republicans and conservatives around the district join our grassroots efforts every day,” said Garcia. “I thank the Ventura County GOP for their support and will continue to fight to represent our conservative principles and win in March and November.”
Mike Garcia believes in a strong national defense and is a pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider with nearly 20 years of service to this country as one of the first Super Hornet strike fighter pilots in the Navy and is a highly decorated US Naval Officer. Garcia is a first-generation American whose father immigrated to the US in 1959 and has lived in the 25th district for nearly all of his life. Garcia lives in Santa Clarita with his wife and two sons. He was recently named to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program as one of the top GOP candidates in the country.
The 25th district encompasses the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster and the northern part of the San Fernando Valley. The median income is $76,866 and the ethnic breakdown is 45.8% White, 8% Black, 7.7% Asian and 35.3% Hispanic. The only Democrat, prior to 2018, to carry the district in the last 18 years was Obama, by less than 1%.
