POLITICS | Race for the 25th – Garcia & Sacramento Smith Debate Business Issues

Valencia, CA – In preparation for tomorrow afternoon’s debate, hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, between Navy fighter pilot Mike Garcia and liberal politician “Sacramento” Christy Smith, the Mike Garcia campaign is highlighting Sacramento Smith’s disastrous voting record for small businesses in California.

“Sacramento Smith’s lie to voters and small businesses about not raising their taxes will be on full display at tomorrow afternoon’s debate,” Mike Garcia Spokesperson Lance Trover said. “The highlight of tomorrow’s debate will be seeing if Sacramento Smith has the gall to try and lie to businesses about her lie that she wouldn’t raise taxes.”

Christy Smith: “I’m not going to raise taxes”
Although California had an operating surplus of $22 billion, Christy Smith voted for more than $3 billion dollars of new taxes and fees in the first year of the 2019-2020 legislative session.

Despite lying about not raising taxes, Smith’s record is devastating for business:

    • Voted for $3 billion in higher taxes and fees
      • Including $1.7 billion on small business
      • Managed Care Organization Tax ($1.5 billion)
    • Voted for and continues to support jobs-killing, wage-lowering AB5 and now, in a rare moment of honesty, admits knowing it was bad for segments of independent contractors when she voted for it
    • Supports gutting Prop 13 which would mean higher property taxes
    • Supports a single payer health insurance option, which would increase spending by $32 trillion over 10 years
    • Failed to support an effort to stop a gas tax increase
    • Co-sponsoredco-authored, and voted for the Green New Deal in the California State Assembly
      • The Green New Deal is a progressive checklist of costly taxpayer-funded programs, including a guaranteed job, income, and ‘economic security
      • The Green New Deal for America is expected to cost as much as $93 trillion, or over $600,000 per household.
