Even after all her conditions were met, Smith backs out of debate; Refuses to explain if she will support nationalizing AB5
Valencia, CA – At the last second, Liberal Christy Smith bailed on Wednesday’s Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Congressional Candidate Forum with Congressman Mike Garcia. Smith’s refusal to show up and face questions from local business leaders follows her refusing to debate Garcia with the Santa Clarita Valley Signal, one of the district’s top local news outlets, just weeks ago. “Christy Smith is a liar who refuses to face voters and explain why she supports nationalizing the jobs-killing AB5 and raised taxes on Southern California families,” said Garcia Campaign Spokesperson Lance Trover. “Even after all the conditions laid out in her publicity stunt letter were met, liberal Smith now refuses to face questions from local business leaders who surely want to know why she voted to raise their taxes and kill jobs with her signature bill, AB5.” Ironically, liberal Smith is citing an “unforeseen committee hearing” as her reason for backing out of the forum, but she has never been afraid to shirk official responsibilities before. In March, just days before COVID-19 would lead to Gov. Newsom issuing a stay-at-home order for the entire state, Smith, the then chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management canceled a hearing on the virus. The committee would never meet to discuss the pandemic prior to Smith’s firing as chair in June. It is clear at this point that Smith’s deception knows no bounds. She promised her constituents that she wouldn’t raise taxes, then voted for over $3 billion in tax hikes. She said AB5, her signature bill that is currently threatening to shut down Uber and Lyft and crush hundreds of thousands of jobs, wouldn’t put Californians out of work and then lied about refusing to record a vote on a repeal effort. She tweeted her support for defunding local law enforcement, but now she lies about that as well. “It’s pretty simple; Liberal Christy Smith lied about not raising taxes, lied about not putting people out of work and lied about participating in debates and forums,” added Trover. Former Navy Fighter Pilot Mike Garcia is a man who keeps his commitments and will be at the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Congressional Candidate Forum as promised.
Mike Garcia believes in a strong national defense and is a pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider with nearly 20 years of service to this country as one of the first Super Hornet strike fighter pilots in the Navy and is a highly decorated US Naval Officer. Garcia is a first-generation American whose father immigrated to the US in 1959 and has lived in the 25th district for nearly all of his life. Garcia lives in Santa Clarita with his wife and two sons. He was elected to Congress on May 12, 2020, winning a Special Election with 55% and becoming the first California Republican to flip a Democrat seat since 1998. The 25th district encompasses the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster and the northern part of the San Fernando Valley. The median income is $76,866 and the ethnic breakdown is 45.8% White, 8% Black, 7.7% Asian and 35.3% Hispanic.
