PORT HUENEME, CA -Today, Sonia Kim, resident of Port Hueneme, kicked off her campaign for Port Hueneme City Council. Sonia is a longtime small business owner in Port Hueneme, active in her community, and mother to two active-duty members of the military and a nurse. With strong ties to the community and a personal stake in the safety and prosperity of the City of Port Hueneme, running for city council is a way for her to give back to the community she loves.
“I am running for city council because there is a lot that I can contribute, being a former longtime business owner and active member of my community,” said Sonia Kim. I raised my three kids here and I want to ensure that their kids, and our seniors, and business community are able to thrive in our little piece of paradise.”
Sonia and her late husband operated Beachport Cleaners, a family-owned business, and built strong relationships with the Navy, law enforcement and the local community. They often donated their time and services to the NJROTC at Hueneme High School. Sonia also served as President of the Seaside Walk Homeowner Association.
As a member of the city council, Sonia will be focused on preserving and finding new sources of revenue by supporting small businesses and reexamining the City’s shared revenue agreement with the Port of Hueneme. In addition, keeping streets clean and safe to boost tourism and increase the quality of life for local residents is a priority. Finally, close to her heart, is building a more inclusive and accessible urban landscape for seniors and the disabled. She believes that if we want everyone to participate in public life, we need to build a public space that is accessible to all.
