Powerful Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) Story

    By Jenifer Gulley

In 1987 the month of October was inaugurated Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and for the past three and a half decades October is a month of observance and acknowledgment for all victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse.

One woman, Sheryl Kurland (left), has been one of the most outspoken and effective crusaders for victims and survivors of domestic abuse across the United States.
With her nonprofit org, Find Your Fabulosity, she has leveraged the power of beauty and femininity to build the morale and confidence of tens of thousands of women who have survived unthinkable abuse.

Kurland’s Find Your Fabulosity donates brand new packaged lipsticks to women’s shelters in all 50 states across the U.S., gifting domestic abuse survivors with lipsticks to remind them that they are beautiful, cared for, and more beautiful than the abuse they have suffered.
To date, Sheryl has donated close to 100,000 lipsticks! Lipstick donations come to her by way of dozens of cosmetics companies, other corporate sponsors, and from individual donors who read about Find Your Fabulosity’s work or see Sheryl on television speaking about her work, and feel compelled to contribute. Dollar for dollar, Sheryl has donated more than $1 Million in brand new packaged lipsticks since starting Find Your Fabulosity in 2017.

According to Kurland, “When I was a young woman, I remember my mother used to always say, ‘Sheryl, if you want to feel better, just put on a little lipstick,’” she says, describing the nonprofits’ original inspiration.

Above, left, Sheryl and FYF volunteers are packing up donated lipsticks from cosmetics company Thrive Causemetics to be shipped out to women’s shelters.
Please reach out to me to connect with Sheryl Kurland for a story on Find Your Fabulosity’s amazing work and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October).

It’s the perfect time to cover this very important story that sits at the cross- section of beauty, cosmetics, women’s rights, and women’s health and wellness. Watch Sheryl’s Sizzle Reel HERE.
