A leader in the ongoing effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom said they have amassed the 1.5 million signatures needed to qualify for a statewide vote.
In a tweet late Wednesday, Thomas del Beccaro, a chair of the recall effort, revealed that their petition had collected “over” the 1.5 million signatures necessary, but that their work to get the matter on the ballot was far from over.
“To ensure qualification we need 1.9 million [signatures],” Beccaro wrote on the social media platform, as many signatures could be found to be ineligible and removed.
Newsom, a Democrat, is not up for re-election until 2022.
