Recreational rental businesses at the Channel Islands Harbor received the go-ahead from the County of Ventura’s Health Officer to operate. Visitors seeking to rent boats, kayaks, standup paddle boards, electric boats, jet skis, and bicycles will be able to do so immediately.
Dr. Robert Levin, Ventura County Public Health Officer, amended the Stay Safe at Home Order on May 15, 2020 to allow recreational rentals at the Harbor.
The businesses will be allowed to reopen provided they submit a plan that ensures the safety of employees and customers.
Ventura County Harbor Department Director Mark Sandoval said the Harbor Department worked in advance with the business owners to fine-tune compliance plans.
Harbor rental businesses will add signage, train employees on social distancing, sanitize equipment before each use, pre-book customers online and over the phone as much as possible, and rent equipment used by multiple people only to members of the same household, among other items.
Director Sandoval said reopening is a win-win for Harbor business owners and visitors seeking access to on-the-water recreational activities.
“Most of our recreational rental businesses are family-owned and operated and May represents a pivotal time of the year for them,” Director Sandoval said. “I’m confident they will succeed while following the new guidelines.”
