Synopsis of Incident
On October 1, 2021, at 7:46 pm, Santa Paula Police officers were dispatched to the Vista Cove Nursing Facility, located in the 200 blk. of March Street, Santa Paula, for an auto versus pedestrian traffic collision in the rear parking lot of the facility.
The victim, a 79-year-old female, was in a wheelchair when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling through the parking lot at a slow speed. The victim was knocked out of her wheelchair and suffered major injuries. The victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center by members of the Ventura County Fire Department, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers. Investigators had the driver perform a series of sobriety tests to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision, and at this time it does not appear that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
