With family and friends in the audience, it was a packed hall due to the introduction and pinning of new police officers Sergio Gutierrez, Richard Prebble, Donovan Varela and Sean Zosini at the August 21, 2019 Santa Paula City Council Meeting. Donovan Varela was first academically in the Police Academy, said Chief McClean. Sergio Gutierrez started as a member of the Santa Paula Explorers, the youth police auxiliary.
After the pinning of the new officers, Chief McClean introduced the new Assistant Police Chief Matthew C. Rodriguez. Chief McLean stated that Chief Rodriguez comes to Santa Paula with 32 years experience and an extensive resume including multiple degrees, budgeting experience exceeding the entire city of Santa Paula and anti-terrorism training in Israel. His degrees include MA USC, MA Long Beach, BA UCLA and Degree in Justice from Glendora. Previous police experience includes Los Angeles County ($86 million budget), San Diego, and City of Commerce ($70 million budget). Read the full resume here: Rodriguez-Resume 2019 (2)
Chief Rodriguez spoke to the council stating his pleasure in coming to Santa Paula, then he turned and spoke to the audience saying he had moved to Santa Paula to become part of the community.

It says a lot about the assistant chief who moves to Santa Paula…great to hear that not only will he be dedicated in this position as the assistant chief, but he will be invested as a citizen of this great city.
I wish him luck and look forward to good things coming from his experience and expertise.
