Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
In July of 2020, the Simi Valley Police Department Major Crimes Detective Bureau received a CyberTip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force related to the distribution of child pornography in the City of Simi Valley via the internet. The CyberTip was generated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The CyberTip related that the social media application Discord, discovered one of it’s users distributed child pornography images on their platform. Discord is a social media platform in which users communicate via voice, video, or text messaging, as well as share digital files. Discord and all social media platforms are required by federal law to review and report all incidents of suspected child pornography to NCMEC, who then sends the CyberTip to the ICAC Task Force for investigation.
The investigation into the CyberTip by Simi Valley Police Detectives included several search warrants which revealed that the suspect Discord user was Simon Gonzalez Jr. (33, Simi Valley). Several electronic devices were ultimately seized from Simon Gonzalez Jr. via search warrant and were examined by Simi Valley Police Department digital forensics detectives. The examination revealed Gonzalez possessed and distributed hundreds of images and videos of child pornography via Discord.
On November 23, 2020, Gonzalez was arrested for 311.1 PC, 311.11(c)(1) PC and 311.11(a) PC (distribution, possession or control of matter depicting minors engaging in or simulating sexual conduct, and aggravated possession (over 600 images) or control of matter depicting minor engaging in or simulating sexual conduct).
Gonzalez was booked into Ventura County jail on the above charges.
