Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release
The Simi Valley Police Department is releasing information about a recent traffic collision.
On June 10, 2020 shortly before 7:00 p.m., the Simi Valley Police Department received a report of a vehicle rollover at the intersection of Cochran Street and Sequoia Avenue. When officers arrived, they saw that one of the cars was on fire. Citizen witnesses to the crash helped to free the drivers involved in the collision.
From the preliminary investigation it appeared that a driver heading west on Cochran Street ran a red light and struck a car traveling south on Sequoia Avenue. That original collision propelled both vehicles into the path of another car that was driving east on Cochran.
Ventura County Fire Department and AMR medics put out the fire and cared for the injured drivers. Two patients were transported to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks and two others were transported to Holy Cross Medical Center in Sylmar. Their injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
Alcohol may have been a factor in this collision. The Simi Valley Police Department Traffic Unit conducted an investigation and arrested Manuel Rodriguez III (29, Oxnard) for DUI causing injury. Due to Rodriguez’s injuries, he was released for medical treatment.
The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind you that drinking and driving don’t mix. If you are going to drink alcohol, ensure that you have a safe ride home, or utilize a taxi or ride share service.
