Grants to help provide critical health and human services to Ventura County residents
OXNARD, CA– (November 19, 2020) – Dignity Health St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) and St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), members of Dignity Health Central Coast, are proud to announce they have awarded $230,000 in grant funding to eight vitally important community non-profit partnerships in Ventura County.
Grants are awarded through Dignity Health’s Community Grants Program, which sets forth to help non-profit organizations whose efforts aid in building healthier communities by improving health and living conditions. This year due to COVID-19 Common Spirit Health, Dignity Health parent company, also allowed our local Dignity Health Community Grants program to offer your organization the opportunity to apply for a Coronavirus Pandemic Support Grant.
“Dignity Health’s Community Grant Program allows us to work collaboratively with local partners who share our goal of improving the health of our communities, more specifically the vulnerable and underserved,” said Darren Lee, President and CEO of St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “Due to the pandemic and the hardships some of these organizations are facing, it was especially difficult to determine the recipients, as they are all valued services. We are proud to be able to support the selected recipients this year.”
Organizations selected to receive 2021 Dignity Health Community Grants include:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme (BGCOP) – $20,000
Triple Play at Home
BGCOP will be adapting the BGCA “Triple Play at Home” program to comply with social distancing guidelines. Through “Triple Play at Home,” youth will learn how to make smart nutrition choices. Members will also receive coaching in sports, including fun activities that enhance their coordination and leadership skills. “Triple Play” is part of the BGCOP virtual club, which includes a weekly curriculum posted for elementary, middle, and high school students. The curriculum segments are available live and prerecorded by BGCOP staff. Club members’ families will also be able to pick up free healthy lunches at club sites.
Brain Injury Center of Ventura County (BIC) – $20,000
Improving Depression & Mental Well-Being for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors/Families
BIC will provide brain injury survivors and family caregivers trauma-informed mental health support services, including 52 one-hour group therapy sessions in three locations (St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Alma Via of Camarillo in Camarillo, and Encounter Christian Church in Ventura). A Virtual ZOOM Group will also be available. In addition, a total of six one-hour trauma/informed therapy sessions will be accessible for survivors and their families.
Camarillo Family YMCA – $20,000
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
The LIVESTRONG goal at the YMCA program is to empower adult cancer survivors to improve functional capacity and increase their quality of life through organized group fitness and strength. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a recurring 12 week, small group, physical activity program led by specially trained YMCA instructors. Through individual personal assessments, instructors create a physical activity plan tailored to each LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participant.
Interface Children & Family Services – $25,000
211 Pandemic and Crisis Response
Through 211 Ventura County, Interface will meet the needs of people who are in constrained financial positions or are seeking social service resources due to the COVID-19 pandemic by linking them to the social safety net. When this population calls or texts 211, Interface will connect them with services such as mental and physical healthcare, emergency shelter, transportation, transitional or permanent supportive housing, food assistance, and other critical resources.
The Kingdom Center Oxnard – Gabriel’s House – $20,000
Gabriel’s House
Gabriel’s House provides emergency shelter, transition living, counseling, reunification with children, life skills, and career development exclusively for low-income homeless women, their children, and transition-age youth.
Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice – $30,000
Subsidized Care Program for Low Income Patients in Ventura County
This program addresses the critical health needs of homebound, low-income patients who lack access to healthcare or whose coverage is insufficient for the needs of their condition, allowing them to recuperate and heal in the safest possible place, at home.
No Limits for Deaf Children – $75,000
No Limits Education and Technology
“No Limits” offers essential auditory, speech, language, and literacy programs to low-income, underserved deaf children and families in the Ventura County community. Our partnership with local and regional hospitals allows us to reach a broader range of deaf children in need of quality services.
Servants of Mary Ministers to the Sick – $20,000
Free Home Care, Hospice and Respite
This program cares for the sick in their homes, free of charge, especially the Spanish speaking, poor and marginalized people in our communities.
