    Studio Channel Islands Art à la Mode Gala

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) is hosting its annual Art à la Mode Gala, 5:30 p.m., Sept. 7, at the Saticoy Country Club, 4450 Clubhouse Dr, Somis. The Art à la Mode Gala offers an evening of gourmet dining, an opportunity to see inspirational artists demonstrating their craft and a chance to walk away with a work of art or other item from the live and silent auctions. This year’s event honors Dr. Joseph (Joe) Halcomb III and his wife Joani Halcomb as the recipients of the 2019 Medici Award, SCIART’s highest recognition, for their support of the arts, artists and the art community. The Art à la Mode Gala is SCIART’s largest fundraiser with all proceeds going to support its art education and outreach programs, and contemporary art exhibitions.     “Sentenced to Death” at Studio Channel Islands

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) will host “Sentenced to Death,” a one night only pop-up exhibit highlighting performance art with conceptual artist Miss Art World, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 27. “Sentenced to Death” critiques the disturbing and obsessive struggle to obtain the unrealistic “perfected” physical body in mainstream beauty and the pageant industry.     Studio Channel Islands Launches Concerts in the Gallery Series

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART), 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, is expanding its arts offerings to include Concerts in the Gallery, a series of concert performances featuring world-famous musicians who happen to call Ventura County home. The first concert, Sept. 28, is Armen & Friends, featuring acclaimed concert pianist Armen Guzelimian and three immensely talented friends, Louise Lofquist, Luvi Avendano and David Singer, to perform an eclectic program of music, from Bizet to Gershwin to Rogers and Hammerstein, as well as new music by composer Don Harper. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. in SCIART’s gallery which will present concert goers with a rare opportunity to view a private collection of paintings by Russian impressionist artist Grigory Tatarinov. Tickets are $17.50 for students, $35 general admission and $55 for VIP tickets that include special seating during the concert, a complementary bottle of wine and a private reception with the musicians after the performance.     “Magical Realism” Opening Reception at Studio Channel Islands

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART), 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, will host an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, for “Magical Realism,” featuring the vibrantly rich artwork of Latin-American artists Omar D’León and Andrea Yomtob. The pair have been painting together for almost 25 years at D’León’s Camarillo studio. The artists use a painting technique that incorporates oil and wax on canvas, with each layer of paint scratched through to reveal the color beneath, creating a style very reminiscent of Impressionism.     Artist Talk Series Presents

    “Madness, Creativity and the Power of Art to Heal Your Brain”

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) presents neuroscience expert and best-selling author Mark Waldman, as the featured speaker for the Oct. 19 Artist Talk at 1 p.m. in the SCIART Blackboard gallery, 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo.

    One of the world’s leading experts on communication, spirituality and the brain, Waldman will present “Madness, Creativity and the Power of Art to Heal Your Brain,” a talk about how recent brain-scan studies show that creative expression can help to reduce the neurological “chaos” that lies dormant in everyone. Waldman is executive MBA faculty at Loyola Marymount University where he teaches the NeuroLeadership program. Admission to each Artist Talk is free for SCIART members, $10 non-members.     The Nov. 9 Artist Talk at Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) will feature a thought-provoking presentation by Richard Barnett, a Marine who served overseas and returned as an artist with a unique perspective. The Artist Talk series takes place at 1 p.m. in SCIART’s Blackboard Gallery at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo. Admission is free to SCIART members, $10 for nonmembers.     Studio Channel Islands: Concerts in the Gallery presents “Sassy Christmas,” an evening with American pop and jazz singer and trombone extraordinaire Aubrey Logan, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 14. Logan’s “Sassy Christmas” promises a night full of jazzy versions of well-known (and obscure) songs, along with plenty of heart-tugging moments, that will leave audience members celebrating well into the New Year! Presented at Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART), 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo.     Studio Channel Islands Winter Walk and Holiday Art Market

    Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) located at 2222 E. Ventura Blvd., Camarillo, kicks off the holiday season with its annual holiday fair and festival, beginning with the Winter Walk, featuring a pile of genuine snow, Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. The Holiday Art Market opens Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features distinctive artwork for gift-giving created by SCIART’s artists-in-residence and member artists, live music, free activities for kids, food trucks, craft beer and wine and more. The shopping continues Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. throughout SCIART’s 40 artist studios. Admission to the Winter Walk and Holiday Market is free. Plenty of free parking.

    Comedy & Cocktails at Studio Channel Islands Art Center

    Join comedian and host Jason Love (Last Comic Standing) and guest comedians at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 25, for an entertaining evening of stand-up comedy and cocktails at Studio Channel Islands Art Center, 2222 E.     Free First Saturdays at Studio Channel Islands Art Studios

    Every first Saturday of the month, Studio Channel Islands artists’ studios, 2222 E.
