Teenagers Charged With Arson At Hueneme High School

    News Release

VENTURA, California – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that arson and burglary charges were filed against two 16-year-old teenagers for their involvement in a fire at Hueneme High School in Oxnard.

On May 15, 2022, shortly before 1:00 a.m., the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department responded to an active fire at Hueneme High School. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters located evidence that the fire had been intentionally started inside the school cafeteria. The kitchen area had also been vandalized. School surveillance video showed the teenagers climbing out of a broken cafeteria window. Police later learned the teenagers had recorded themselves inside the smoke-filled building and posted the recording on social media. The fire completely destroyed the kitchen area of the cafeteria. The estimated property loss is approximately $300,000.

The teenagers are currently detained at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facility. They will be arraigned separately at the Juvenile Justice Courthouse on May 19, and May 20, 2022, in courtroom J4.
