Priscilla Keitel celebrated her 100th birthday fully vaccinated from COVID-19.
To commemorate this milestone, the team at her University Village Thousand Oaks senior living community home planned a birthday surprise. On the morning of her birthday on Monday, February 22, the team surprised Keitel with a Card in My yard Happy Birthday sign outside her balcony where she and all her fellow neighbors could see.
“It’s always been important to us at University Village to help make residents feel special on their birthday,” said University Village Thousand Oaks Life Enrichment Director Holly Butler. “Even during the pandemic, we’ve made sure to celebrate our residents’ special life events.”
Priscilla has called University Village her home for 14 years. Over that time, she’s continued to live independently. This social butterfly says the key to successful aging is eating well and staying active. Something she’s been able to continue doing at the community, despite the pandemic.
Along with the sign, the community setup a surprise Zoom call with Keitel’s family from across the country.
“University Village has gone above and beyond to keep residents connected with their families during the pandemic,” said Keitel’s daughter-in-law Cindy Keitel. “We could not be happier with the services University Village has provided.”
University Village was one of the first senior living communities in the area to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Some 97% of the residents and 75% of team members received both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in January. Keitel was one of the first residents to receive both doses of the vaccine.’
