On 03-29-20, the Thousand Oaks Investigations Bureau served a residential search warrant in the 700 block of Warwick Avenue, Thousand Oaks after arresting Ricardo Herrera for multiple charges related to property crimes.
On 03-29-20, at about 7:30 AM, patrol deputies from the city of Thousand Oaks were dispatched to a commercial burglary report in the 1300 block of Lawrence Drive. The suspect later identified as Ricardo Herrera, took several items from the business, including vehicle keys to the victim’s vehicle. Herrera then proceeded to take the victim’s vehicle and drive away with the stolen property.
Herrera formulated a plan to steal an ATM machine located at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks. Herrera attempted to steal the ATM machine by utilizing a strap to connect the ATM to the vehicle. As Herrera drove away the strap broke and his efforts were unsuccessful.
Patrol deputies responded and searched the area for the vehicle. While searching the 700 block of Warwick Avenue, the stolen vehicle was located. Another patrol deputy was able to review video surveillance and identified the suspect as Ricardo Herrera. The Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) responded to assist in the investigation.
At the execution of the search warrant, detectives recovered stolen property from the commercial burglary.
Ricardo Herrera was arrested for commercial burglary, attempted grand theft, and stolen vehicle. Herrera remains in custody with bail set at $50,000.
