Acting District Attorney Cheryl M. Temple announced today that Anthony Michael Garcia (DOB 2/24/87), of Camarillo, has been charged with the murder of Jorge Alfaro, also of Camarillo, which occurred on January 7, 2021. The complaint alleges one count of murder with a special allegation that Garcia used a firearm in the commission of the crime. The complaint also alleges that Garcia was out of custody on bail for another felony offense when he committed this murder.
Louis Vincent Reyes (DOB 7/5/80), of Camarillo, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact, a felony, for assisting Garcia after the murder. Reyes drove Garcia to Bakersfield immediately after the shooting.
On January 7, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Via Rosal, located in Camarillo. Upon arrival, deputies found Mr. Alfaro suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest. Mr. Alfaro was immediately taken to the Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks where he died.
Both Reyes and Garcia were arrested in Bakersfield the day after the murder and appeared in Ventura County Superior court on January 12, 2021, for arraignment. Both defendants pled not guilty to their charges. The case is next scheduled for hearing on January 22, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Garcia is currently in custody at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1.5 million. Reyes is currently in custody at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
