The Oxnard Inter-Neighborhood Council held an ambitious election forum on 2-5-20, covering all VC Supervisors’ races- District 1, 3, 5, plus the Measure B Oxnard Government Accountability and Ethics Act.
From District 5, Retired CPA/CFO/USAF Major/Vet Jeff Burum, Mayor/retired Teacher Tim Flynn, Mayor ProTem/Attorney Carmen Ramirez and Harbor District President/Longshoreman Jess Herrera. School Board Trustee/Social worker Veronica Solis was not able to attend due to a school board meeting conflict.
Candidate turnout was very light from other districts:
From District 3, public school educator Kim Stephenson
From District 1, write in candidate/attorney Trevor Quirk
Only three questions were asked on: homelessness, socioeconomic equity, protecting environmental resources, plus opening and closing statements. Answers were similar to those at the 1-23-20 Latino Issues Forum, but tighter and more focused. See our two articles on this event. There were a few audience-submitted Q&A’s.
Measure B– Oxnard City Manager Alex Nguyen presented this in detail (about 1:30 on the video)
It was again disappointing that ONLY the city’s viewpoint was offered and only two minutes were allocated per public speaker. So, here’s a dissenting opinion: POLITICS | What’s Wrong with Measure B
Here’s an event video:
