VENTURA, California – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that James Edward Duran II (DOB 05/25/91), of Ventura, was charged with one count of oral copulation of a minor under the age of 16 by a person over the age of 21, and one count of oral copulation of a minor under the age of 18.
It is alleged that from 2013 to 2015, Duran was involved in ongoing sexual activity with a minor who was then aged 14 to 16 years old. Duran had access to the minor through his work at The River Community Church in Ventura. Since 2013, Duran was involved with the youth ministry and had access to other minors.
On December 8, 2021, detectives with the Ventura Police Department arrested Duran. Duran posted a
$50,000 bail bond and was released from jail. He appeared in Ventura County Superior Court on December 29, 2021 and pled not guilty to the charges. Duran is scheduled to appear for an early disposition conference on January 20, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 23.
