Ventura Police Department – Incident Press Release
On November 1 at 3:05 PM a resident called the Ventura Police Department to report suspicious activity and a possible stolen vehicle at the Aquatics Center (901 S. Kimball Rd.). The resident observed a suspicious subject trying vehicle door handles in the parking lot. The subject then entered a vehicle with a second person and drove the vehicle out of the lot.
A patrol officer located the vehicle as it entered the 126 freeway. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later determined to be Kathan Shrader, (1-29-2000) – Vagrant, failed to stop the vehicle. The officer initiated a pursuit, but it was immediately terminated due to danger to the public from high speed and erratic driving. Another patrol officer located the vehicle in the parking structure in the 500 block of Santa Clara St. and learned the driver (Shrader) had recently fled on foot from the vehicle after it collided into a wall in the structure.
At approximately 5 PM, Shrader was seen in the Santa Clara St. parking structure, and he ran from officers. Shrader was safely apprehended and arrested. At the time of his arrest, Shrader was in possession of nunchucks and a controlled substance. Shrader was later booked at Ventura County Jail for Evading a Peace Officer, Possession of Nunchucks, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Delaying a Peace Officer. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
A search of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows Shrader has previous arrests for trespassing, resisting a peace officer, weapons charges, and possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
