    Wednesday, August 16, 2017 – 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Shark Researcher Apryl Delancey presents the Truth about Sharks in Southern California

Sharks are undoubtedly one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet.  These beautiful creatures have been around for over 400 million years and are of vital importance to keeping our oceans – and our planet – alive.  With humans killing over eleven thousand sharks every hour, it is important to become informed about the importance of the species and what we can all do for their conservation. Learn about what lives in our local waters, as well as the difference between shark facts and media hype. You’ll walk away with a newfound appreciation for sharks and how to be a “Citizen Scientist” that contributes to their preservation!

A Los Angeles native, Apryl has received bachelors degrees in chemistry and marine science, as well as her MS in Biomedical Science, and has been published in several scientific journals. An avid surfer she can be found on the waves.  As educating the public and next generation of scientists is of utmost importance, you can also find her working on shark programs with Waterfront Education in the South Bay.

Speaker Series is a lecture series held every third Wednesday at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum 3900 Bluefin Circle, Oxnard CA. Refreshments are served at 6:30 pm and the lecture begins at 7:00 pm. Entry is free with CIMM membership, $7 for non-members, $5 for seniors.
